Research interests
My research focuses on gender, class and race in modern Britain. My PhD thesis, which was completed at the University of Oxford in 2022, analysed the migration, settlement and labour experiences of working-class British-Pakistani women who settled in Middlesbrough and Oldham between 1962 and 2002. My interests include women’s paid and unpaid work, community, family life and generational change, as well as oral history methodology.
I am currently a postdoctoral research associate for the digital humanities project, 'Remaking Britain: South Asian Connections and Networks, 1830 to the Present’, in collaboration with the University of Bristol, Queen Mary University of London and the British Library.
I am also a Research Associate at the University of Oxford, where I am co-leading a community history project on the Muslim history of Oxford. This is in collaboration with the national heritage organisation ‘Everyday Muslim’ and the Faculty of History.
