Research summary

Nadia has just finished a research project on young people’s experiences of violence and abuse(online & offline) in their intimate relationships within the European context. Her current research is on domestic violence and the notion/s of justice for non-heterogenous communities of Muslim women who use Sharia Councils in the UK.

Research interests include:

Gender based violence within national and international contexts

Cultural and structural violence within Muslim context 

Violence and abuse within teenage intimate relationships

Nadia Aghtaie is the Director for the BSc Childhood Studies programmes. She is a lecturer in gender-based violence at the Centre for Gender and Violence Research. She has a longstanding association with the University of Bristol, having completed her BSc (Childhood Studies), MSc (Policy Research) and Ph.D. research here in the School for Policy Studies.
