    This chapter focuses on how to support parents with intellectual developmental disabilities (IDD) to be the best parent possible. While this chapter offers a particular focus for parents who are involved in child protection proceedings the principles discussed should be utilised when providing early, preventative support for parents with IDD so that serious concerns for the welfare of their children do not arise. This chapter begins by introducing parents with IDD, the issues they might face and the terms used to describe this group of parents. It also discusses the issues relating to engaging parents with support and is followed by recommendations of Best Practice in supporting parents with IDD when they are involved in child protection.
