Personal profile

I was born in France and studied English Literature at The University of Nottingham and the Sociology of Gender at the University of Warwick where I completed my PhD in 2009.

Research

My principal area of research is the sociology of families (motherhood and parenting specifically), but I have wide ranging research interests including new class studies, postfeminism and critical pedagogies.

My doctoral research examined how younger and older mothers negotiate dominant discourses of good mothering. This thesis points to the importance of mothering as a key site for the (re)production of moral and classed selves and problematizes the middle-class lifecourse as the norm, highlighting class assumptions underpinning definitions of the ‘right’ time for motherhood.

Teaching

In 2009-10 I convened the third year undergraduate option ‘Gender Relations’ and the MSc ‘Interpreting Gender’ and contributed to the second year unit ‘Contemporary Inequalities.’
