Researcher and systematic reviewer covering both quantitative and qualitative systematic reviews. Recent topics covered include

  • Preventing obesity in children
  • Support and services for children exposed to domestic violence
  • Interventions for people on low income or unemployed - effects on mental health
  • Supportive care for men with prostate cancer. 
  • Interventions for treating depression


Theresa has worked both as an academic systematic reviewer at the University of Bristol, and mentoring people preparing systematic reviews with the Cochrane Heart Group. Theresa has extensive experience of carrying out and managing quantitative systematic reviews in a range of topics including medical indications such as prostate cancer and mental health, domestic violence and abuse, and reviews of public health interventions, such as changes to the built environment and preventing obesity in children. Her reviews have covered a range of methods; including reviews of interventions with both RCTs and non-randomised comparisons, reviews of effects of exposure.

Theresa is part of the Bristol Appraisal and Review of Research (BARR) Group headed by Professor Julian Higgins. In addition she has worked on two mixed methods reviews including evidence from qualitative data.

She organises the MESS, Methods in Evidence Synthesis Salon with six meetings a year in Bristol @tweethemess
