Research summary

I am currently working with Dr Cathy Williams and Professor Iain Gilchrist on a project investigating the efficacy of a novel app they designed and built with developer Kieren Pitts and artist Alex Lucas as a therapeutic tool to improve oculomotor control in children. Often children who have additional developmental or learning needs also have impaired control of their eye movements. This can impact on almost every aspect of life including learning to read, crossing a road and interacting with friends. My first degree was in Biology (1st class honours) at the University of Bristol, where I developed an interest in animal decision-making and the similarities between colonies of ants /bees and neurons within the human brain.  I did my PhD in Experimental Psychology in Bristol supervised by Iain Gilchrist (Professor of Neuropsychology) as part of the Decision-making in an Unstable World research group.  In my PhD I looked at how low-level decisions (both saccadic (eye movement) and manual (hand/arm movement)) are affected by knowledge of how likely or rewarding an event is.
