Dr Penny Whiting

Biography

I am Associate Professor of Clinical Epidemiology and Programme Director for the MSc Epidemiology at the University of Bristol.  My main research areas are systematic reviews, test evaluation and developing risk of bias tools.  I have 20 years’ experience in the conduct of systematic reviews across a broad range of topics including both intervention, prognostic and diagnostic test accuracy studies. During this time I have also conducted methodological research related to systematic reviews covering all aspects of the review process from literature searching to presentation of results.  I lead the development of three risk of bias tools, and contributed to the development of a further three tools.  She also has experience of leading projects based on routine data, including CPRD data, and of prediction modelling studies through her involvement in the development of the PROBAST tool. I am currently leading an NIHR funded Evidence Synthesis project to determine the optimum strategy for identifying adults and children with coeliac disease.
