Research summary

ESTEEM - The effectiveness and cost effectiveness of telephone triage of patients requesting same day consultations in general practice: a cluster randomised controlled trial comparing nurse-led and GP-led management systems with usual care - is a multi-centre trial in collaboration with the Universities of Exeter, Warwick and East Anglia with the work being co-ordinated by the Peninsula Medical School.

The study will find out how well GP-led and nurse-led triage systems work. It will consider what difference these systems make to general practice workload and cost, and to patient experience of care, patient safety ...

After studying BSc Psychology at University of Southampton, I completed a MSc Health Psychology. Following this I moved to Cardiff University and completed my PhD in Health Psychology in 2007.  My thesis examined the relationship between eating patterns, specifically snacking behaviour and mental health and well-being. I was subsequently involved in a large trial of breakfast clubs in Wales. I joined the School of Social and Community Medicine in 2011 and I am the trial researcher for ESTEEM.
