Gemma is a Senior Research Associate in the Health Protection Research Unit at the University of Bristol. Her research interests focus on improving patient care by gauging public and/or patient opinion.

Gemma is a mixed-methods researcher and qualified project manager, with particular expertise in the biological, social and ethical issues related to patient disease and ill-health. Gemma's NIHR SPCR funded PhD in Primary Care was awarded in 2016 and investigated the feasibility of a ‘pre-consent' process for use in general practice. This study explored how patients felt about the idea of sharing their identifiable medical records for research purposes and how their concerns might need to be addressed for this approach to be successful.
