Research summary

I am a lecturer with a background in qualitative and mixed methods health services research. I teach social science at undergraduate level (primarily on the MB ChB, as co-lead for the 'Society, Health and Medicine' element) and supervise a number of mixed method PhDs. My research has focused on the organisation and delivery of care and its relationship with help seeking/service use, and chronic pain.

Biography

My expertise and interests broadly lie in applying qualitative approaches to questions around health service utilisation, the relationship between primary and secondary care, and chronic pain. 

I lead a workstream in an NIHR funded Programme Grant (2015-20) looking at non use of services for chronic post surgical pain, and have recently completed an ethnography of primary care to look at how the organisation and delivery of care influences use of unscheduled secondary care (ED use and emergency admissions).
