Summary

Research interests:

Applicaiton of qualitative and mixed methods, help seeking and use of health care services, health and wellbeing in older age, chronic pain.

Biography

My expertise and interests broadly lie in applying qualitative and mixed method approaches to questions around health service utilisation, the relationship between primary and secondary care, health in older age, and chronic pain.

I lead a workstream in an NIHR funded Programme Grant (2015-20) looking at non use of services for chronic post surgical pain, and have recently completed an ethnography of primary care to look at how the organisation and delivery of care influences use of unscheduled secondary care (ED use and emergency admissions).

I hold a BSc in Psychology (UWE), an MSc in Social Research (Bath) and a PhD in Health Services Research (Bristol).

Teaching

Have led undergraduate teaching for the MB ChB and contributed to curriculum development in the new case-based Bristol MB ChB, ensuring that core psychology and sociology content is fully represented.

Short course and CPD teaching, particularly on research methods.
