Research summary

My research interests include inequality and inequity, social determinants of health, ontology and epistemology in public health, and concepts of wellbeing.  I am currently working as an applied social science researcher in the CLAHRC West (Collaboration for leadership in applied health research and care).  I am also part of the research team for two NIHR funded projects - a study of knowledge exchange in healthcare commissioning, and a study of primary care factors in the use of unplanned secondary care.  I have a continuing interest in medical humanitarian intervention, and in developing the themes from my thesis which looked at ...

Biography

I started my working life as a clinical scientist in the NHS (medical physics & clinical engineering), but in 2002 moved into the social sciences.  After completing a Masters degree in international development I spent two years project managing medical humanitarian intervention in DR Congo (Primary health care) and Ethiopia (Malaria control).  My first research-focused position was as research manager at the Wellbeing in Developing Countries research group at the University of Bath.  This motivated me to develop my own research interests via an Economic & Social Research Council funded PhD studentship.  I joined the Centre ...
