After gaining a BSc in Genetics (University of Wales, Cardiff), I spent six years working at the Health Protection Agency (HPA) national centre in London. My main roles there were as an Epidemiology Scientist, initially monitoring the BCG vaccination programme, and then leading on analyses of national TB surveillance data with a focus on TB in migrants and ethnic minority populations. Subsequently I became the Research and Development Scientist (Epidemiology) for the National Chlamydia Screening Programme, developing methods to evaluate the effectiveness of the programme. I was also actively involved in the national response to infectious disease outbreaks including SARS and Swine flu.

During my time at the HPA I gained an MSc in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. I then moved to University College London to take up a Medical Research Council PhD studentship investigating the epidemiology of sequential pregnancies among women living with HIV in the UK and Ireland. Having completed my PhD, in 2015 I took up my current post as a Senior Research Associate in Research Synthesis within the Health Protection Research Unit in the Evaluation of Interventions at the University of Bristol, in collaboration with Public Health England. In this role, I am involved in a wide range of systematic review and evidence synthesis projects, on both infectious and non-infectious diseases.
