I trained at St Thomas's Hospital in London and after initial house jobs in and around London came to Bristol in 1989. I combined periods of academic training with clinical training and obtained a PhD (investigating screening for amblyopia) and qualified as a Consultant, in 1999. Since 2000 I have been a Consultant at Bristol Eye Hospiutal and have  carried on with research. I began a Career Development Fellowship, funded by NIHR, in 2010 and am investigating functionally-important visual problems that affect children with neurodevelopmental problems.
