Research summary

I am a social science researcher and my primary research interests are around the operation of healthcare rationing at the consultation level. I have a particular interest into the level of explicitness applied to rationing at this level and am currently working on an NIHR postdoctoral fellowship with the aim of developing an intervention to improve communication about rationing at this level. I aso have an interest in the lived experience of morbid obesity, the application of qualitative methods in trials, and the investigation of suicide and self harm.

Biography

I completed my PhD in 2004 and am currently working as an NIHR postdoctoral fellow in the School of Social and Community Medicine. I am affiliated to the Centre for Academic Primary Care and will take up a lectureship in the Centre when I have completed my current fellowship in March 2014.
