Siobhán Shilton was appointed to the Department in 2005. She specialises in postcolonial and transnational studies, with particular reference to the cultures of France, the Maghreb, sub-Saharan Africa and former ‘Indochina’ (she has also worked on Iranian graphic literature in French). She was recently awarded an AHRC Fellowship for a project exploring postcolonial and transnational theory, history and aesthetics in contemporary photography, video, installation and performance art. A further current area of interest is 'aesthetics of revolution' in the contemporary Arab world.
