I research machine translation and its impact on cognitive processes, professional standards and communication. Ultimately, my work aims to understand and improve the use of language translation technologies. Most of my research is empirical. I have experience with methods including eye tracking, key-logging, text mining and verbal reports.
After graduating in modern languages (Portuguese and English) and linguistics at Universidade Federal Fluminense (Brazil), I did an Erasmus Mundus master's degree in language technology at Universidade do Algarve (Portugal) and Université de Franche-Comté (France), with a short stint as a visiting student at the Research Group in Computational Linguistics, University of Wolverhampton (UK). I then moved to the UK to do a PhD on cognitive effort in post-editing of machine translation at Newcastle University. I was appointed as Lecturer in Translation Studies with Technology at Bristol in September 2015.
