My main areas of research are translation editing and technology, with a focus on the use of machine translation in human translation workflows. Generally, I am interested in the cognitive aspects that surround the use of technology in linguistic tasks and how this affects processes, products, and attitudes. I have experience with research methods such as eye tracking and keylogging, and with mixed-method research involving verbal reports and qualitative data analysis.

I am guest editor of a post-editing special issue of The Journal of Specialised Translation, to appear in 2019. The submission deadline is 31 Dec 2017. For full details, see the call for papers

After graduating in modern languages (Portuguese and English) and linguistics at Universidade Federal Fluminense (Brazil), I did an Erasmus Mundus master's degree in language technology at Universidade do Algarve (Portugal) and Université de Franche-Comté (France), with a short stint as a visiting student at the Research Group in Computational Linguistics, University of Wolverhampton (UK). I subsequently moved to the UK to do a PhD on cognitive effort in post-editing of machine translation at Newcastle University. I was appointed as Lecturer in Translation Studies with Technology at Bristol in September 2015.
