Summary

My research is centred on historical sociolinguistics. I'm particularly interested in language policy, language standardisation, and language attitudes. In my PhD thesis, I looked at the invisibilisation of Austrian German in the 18th and early 19th century. Currently, I'm working on the emergence of Scots in legal texts in the Medieval and Early Modern Period.

Biography

I studied German and English at the University of Graz (Austria) before doing a PhD in German linguistics at the University of Bristol. I then worked as a research fellow and teaching assistant at the University of Aberdeen and returned to the University of Bristol as a Lecturer in Sociolinguistics in 2017.
