Research summary

As a medical anthropologist and decolonial scholar, my research investigates the intersections between race, gender, reproductive health and rights, citizenship and power. 

My doctoral work took me to the Peruvian Andes where I worked within a rural health network that offers maternal and reproductive & sexual health services to the Quechua people. I investigated how indigenous women understand and use the national family planning programme and related obstetric services, and how in turn the Peruvian State uses the national health service to mold and encourage the 'kind' of citizen that it wants for the nation.
