I am a filmmaker and lecturer with a background in documentary television production. My research specialises in Iranian/diasporic cinemas and documentary film practice, and I have a wider interest in British/Iranian film cultures and histories. The focus of my practice-as-research PhD was on the relationship between documentary ethnography, family and displacement. Currently, I am working on a project on Anglo-Iranian Oil Company films.  I am an Associate Editor of Screenworks, the peer-reviewed journal of film and screen practice research.

I completed a Bachelor of Science degree (First Class honours) in Computer Science at Royal Holloway in 2002, before completing an MA in Film and Television Production (with Distinction) at University of Bristol (2004). I spent ten years working in documentary and factual television production mainly at the BBC in Bristol where I last produced and directed Health Before the Health Service: a Medical Revolution (BBC4, 2012). In July 2016, I completed a practice-as-research PhD thesis at the University of Bristol (Diasporic, Domestic Ethnography in Documentary Film Practice) under the supervision of Dr. Jacqueline Maingard. From 2014, I held a film and TV lectureship in the Department of Film, Media and Creative Computing at Bath Spa University, before joining the Department of Film and Television at the University of Bristol in September 2016.

I teach across a range of theory and practical undergraduate and postgraduate modules, as well as supervising dissertiations, practice-based projects and industrial placements.
