Research summary

I study audiences. More specifically: my research asks how different people find value in the experience of participation. What processes do diverse audience members go through in understanding, responding to, and talking about cultural events? How are these pleasures and disappointments made meaningful within their lives? And what can all this tell us about the role of theatre in society, as well as the relationship between cultural institutions, power, identity, and place?
