Paediatric epidemiology research is characterised by the study of child health through inter-professional collaborations. Research in this programme contributed to the 1991 "back to sleep" health education campaign, linked to the fall in the incidence of sudden infant death syndrome. Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) is a major resources for researchers, and has yielded numerous publications on the genetic, environmental and social influences on child health and development.
