The audience is arranged on tiered seating, Richard directly address members sitting at the front. He begins to speak to parts of the audience while others are still finding their seats. He also performs his cleaning activities at this time (he describes this as 'marking his territory'). Richard uses the act of approaching and talking quietly to a small number of audience members to create a sense of discomfort and intimacy. This is a tactic intended to disarm the audience. Richard intentionally moves around the space during the performance to avoid the performance seeming like a video show. He wishes the audience to be 'in' all of the performance, he is aware of the confusion caused by shifts between 'video' space and 'actual' space. Richard adds that the nature of the National Review of Live Art is that people will enter and leave during a performance, he sees as a disturbance. Richard feels that he did not receive a positive impression form the audience after the performance. |
