    Abstract

    Regrettably, complaints about human rights violation are not always free from myth, misconception, misunderstanding, misinformation or muddled thinking, a problem graphically illustrated by the current campaign against the UK’s counter-terrorist ‘Prevent duty’. This article maintains that, in order to avoid such difficulties, human rights scholars and activists need to develop a more consistent commitment to ‘human rights realism’, the broad characteristics of which are outlined.
