Professor Patrick Capps


Patrick Capps studied Human Geography (1990-1993) and Socio-Legal Studies (1993-1995) at the University of Sheffield before completing a doctorate in International Law at the University of Bristol in 1999. He was appointed Lecturer at the University of Bristol in 1999, Senior Lecturer in 2005, Reader in 2009 and Professor in 2011. He teaches in the areas of Public International Law and the Philosophy of Law. He has held visiting positions at the University of Melbourne, the University of Cambridge and the University of Copenhagen. He is the author of the monograph Human Dignity and the Foundations of International Law (Hart Publishing, 2009) and the editor of Asserting Jurisdiction (with MD Evans and S Konstadinidis, Hart Publishing, 2004), International Law (with MD Evans, Ashgate, 2009), Ethical Rationalism and the Law (with SD Pattinson, Hart Publishing, 2017) and Legal Authority Beyond the State (with HP Olsen, Cambridge University Press, 2018)
