Research summary

I have written extensively on the historical development of company in the UK, on corporate theory, and on corporate governance - all from a critical perspective. My work is interdisciplinary in nature, drawing insights not only from legal scholarship but from political economy and social theory. I was one of the leading figures of the early critical legal studies movement in the UK, contributing to and co-editing the two volumes of the Critical Lawyers Handbook. More recently, I have been undertaking research into property and property theory, and developing an interest in property rights structures in Rural China.

Biography

Paddy joined the University of Bristol in August 2013 having previously taught at the Universities of Kent, Hull and Osgoode Hall Law School, part of York University, Toronto. A graduate of the University of Kent, Paddy is a leading, heterodox scholar of the history of company law, corporate theory and corporate governance, and has published widely in each of these areas. He was also one of the leading figures of the early critical legal studies movement, contributing to and co-editing the two volumes of the Critical Lawyers Handbook.
