Biography

My doctoral research is located in the shadow of the Ugandan Anti-Homosexuality Act 2014, which, in bill form, proposed the death penalty for the newly created offence of 'aggravated homosexuality'. It is a socio-legal project which aims to explain the emergence of the law by focusing on an extra-legal object of inquiry: the media. Adopting a governmentality lens, it examines an almost thirty-year span of newspaper data from three Ugandan dailies, exploring how the 'problem' of homosexuality was slowly constituted into a pressing, manifold threat.
