Dr Jane Rooney

Biography

Dr Jane M Rooney is a Lecturer in Law at Bristol University. Her research interests lie in the interrelationship between international and domestic law, including the extraterritorial application of human rights, human rights litigation in global governance, foreign relations law, and human rights protection in the context of devolution in the UK. She has published in these areas in leading academic publications including the Modern Law Review, Public Law, Max Planck Encyclopaedia of Comparative Constitutional Law, and Northern Ireland Legal Quarterly

Dr Rooney is Hauser Global Research Fellow at the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice, New York University (Spring 2020) where she is conducting a project on transnational corporate liability and the extraterritorial application of human rights. She is Co-Director/Founder of the Centre for International Law at Bristol Law School, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Honorary Associate of the Oxford Human Rights Hub. She is book review editor of European Human Rights Law Review. She is conducting a project, 'Devolution in the UK and International Law' with Dr Conor McCormick, Queen's University Belfast, funded by the SLS Small Projects and Events Fund.

She is unit coordinator of Law and State on the Undergraduate programme (2020/2021), unit coordinator of International Criminal Law and European Human Rights Law, and teaches International Human Rights Law on the postgraduate programme. 

She is former Quality Coordinator and Faculty Liaison and member of the Education Committee (2017-2019), and currently a member of the Research Ethics Committee.
