Professor Gwen Seabourne


Gwen Seabourne studied law at Cambridge and Oxford. Before coming to Bristol, she worked for a year as a research assistant at the Law Commission. She teaches courses in Legal History and Property Law, and her main research interest is Legal History, particularly pre-1500 English and Welsh Legal History. She completed a PhD on aspects of government, law and morality in Medieval England in 2000, and has written on subjects from bread price regulation to suicide.  Recent work has focused on gender in the medieval world, and on the Welsh-English border. 

Professor Seabourne is currently the convenor of the Legal History section of the Society of Legal Scholars and a member of the committee of the Welsh Legal History Society/ Cymbdeithas Hanes Cyfraith Cymru.
