Summary

Biography

Chathuni has undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from the University of Edinburgh, having been awarded an LLB (Hons), First Class in 2010 and a PhD in 2015.

Chathuni’s scholarly interests are in private law and specifically straddles obligations and commercial law. A recurring theme in her research is the application to intangible property of private law principles developed in the context of tangible property. Chathuni has a particular interest in legal history and Scots private law.

She is currently working on two projects, both of which examine aspects of the Scots common law contract of sale. The first project explores whether, under this contract, the same implied terms applied regardless of the type of property involved in the transaction. The second project examines the development of the actio redhibitoria and the actio quanti minoris in Scots law, and is framed within the historical and comparative contexts of the time. This project is funded by a BA/Leverhulme Small Research Grant.
