Professor Ines Quintero, Ines Quintero is one of Venezuela’s premier historians. She was the director of the National Academy of History between 2015 and 2017. Her many books include studies of the independence era, biographies and studies of the use of the past in contemporary politics.

The lecture will reflect on the politicised uses of the past. The lecture will be followed by a panel-discussion with four experts on history, memory and politics in South America: Rogelio Altez (Universidad Central de Venezuela), Joanna Crow (University of Bristol), Maria-Teresa Pinto Ocampo (Universidad Nacional de Colombia) and Julia Paulson (University of Bristol).
