Research summary

My research focuses on the impact of present and future climate change on physical and biogeochemical processes in the ocean.  My work combines numerical models and 'real world' observations to better understand the drivers of changes in ocean properties.  I have a particular interest in the ocean's oxygen and carbon inventories and how they have changed over the recent past, with major implications for marine ecosystems.

I am also involved in research which uses climate models to better understand the impacts of climate change on population health via changes in heat injury risk.

Biography

I completed my PhD in 2014 at the University of East Anglia using global and regional biogeochemical models to investigate the impacts of climate change on ocean oxygen.  After this I worked for 3 years as a Senior Research Associate in the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, focusing variously on ocean model development and evaluation, marine production of greenhouse gases, and the impacts of climate change on population health.  In 2016 I also held a Visiting Scientist position in the Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
