My research interests span a diversity of topics within the fields of political economy, nature-society relationships, and social science research methods. My PhD dissertation and some subsequent work have sought to explain the rising pace of international economic integration -- that is, globalisation -- since the 1980s. Empirically, I have largely examined this issue through qualitative comparative research on the cases of Canada, Mexico, and the United States, and the creation of NAFTA. In much of my current work, I am using and developing quantitative methods -- above all multilevel modelling -- to investigate economic growth and development, inequality, trust, religiosity, and public concern about environmental degradation.
