Research summary

My reserach experience is in the biology and geography of marine and freshwater algae, specializing in the synergy between macro/micro-algae and both natural and anthropogenic change. Current research includes i) algal life in the cryosphere, ii) the photophysiology of algae, iii) algae in a time of rapid environmental change, iv) genomic approaches to algae and microbiomes, v) algal calcification and skeletal mineralogy, and vi) taxonomy, phylogenetics and conservation of algae.

Biography

Chris is Lecturer in Polar Microbiology at the University of Bristol. He gained his PhD from Cardiff University and The Natural History Museum (NERC CASE partnership) in 2015, studying the impacts of ocean acidification on calcifying macroalgae. Chris stayed on at NHM to complete a 1-year post-doc examining declines in the UK's large brown macroalgal populations and to continue work on calcifying macroalgae.
