Summary

I am a researcher in the social sciences using quantitative and qualitative methods. Interests include:

  • comparative policy
  • political economy
  • research evidence and the policy process
  • health, welfare, wellbeing, happiness
  • people's lifestyles, their living standards, living conditions and the environment
  • human behaviour, and household consumption
  • social divisions within society and social justice
  • varities of capitalism
  • worlds of welfare
  • globalisation and development

 

Current research with Professor Kelvyn Jones at Bristol extends multilevel modelling techniques to better understand our way of life in modern consumer societies, of particular interest are the drivers of mass consumption and associated social and environmental impacts, including embodied greenhouse gas emissions and distributions, and the geo-political context.

Recently I received two research prizes, one from the UK Social Policy Association, another from the journal Social Policy & Administration. Further details are on the University's news site.
