Projecting the impacts of future flooding on high value buildings

University Road,
Clifton, Bristol BS8 1SS
(See a map)

The PhD aims to outline the potential flood risk posed to individual buildings under future climate scenarios. This will be achieved by investigating the uncertainties associated with current impact studies, quantifying these uncertainties and then driving them through a hydraulic model.

A modelling framework has been constructed to cascade the output of a climate model ensembles through hydrological and hydraulic models, enabling flood inundation modelling under future climate scenarios. The potential impacts of future water depths and flow velocities on individual high value buildings, was then investigated. Although the specific aim of the project is focused on specific high value buildings the broader aim will be focused on the uncertainties associated with climate projections and how these uncertainties are translated into flood risk. The practicality of using climate model projections to inform adaptation and mitigation measures can then be discussed.
