Research summary

My PhD studies use RDK stimuli in order to look at the way people actively sample noisy stimuli in order to make decisions. The experiments use multiple RDKs which vary in signal strength between and within trials. Eye tracking enables RDK movement to be gaze contingent, allowing the experiments which look at the relation between low level decisions (Where will the next saccade land?) and higher level decisions (Which pattern is the target?). This structure allows us to examine information gathering strategies and saccadic decision-making. We use ideal observer models (in collaboration with a group from the Department of Computer ...

Biography

The final year project of my undergraduate degree at Bristol University, supervised by Prof. Iain Gilchrist looked at dual task effects in the antisaccade task. I graduated with first class honours in 2008, taking up a Research Assistant post with Dr. Casimir Ludwig, working on a project with the long-term goal of modelling where and when people make their first saccade given a certain stimulus input, as well as continuing with work stemming from my undergraduate project. Following this I started my PhD studies, with Dr. Ludwig, in October 2009. Since this time, I have been progressing with my experimental ...
