Dr Xiaodong Xu's research interests are Scaling effects, Adhesive joints, Fracture mechanics and Enviromental Effects in advanced composites.

Dr Xiaodong Xu is a Senior Research Associate at the Bristol Composites Institute (ACCIS) in the University of Bristol. His research interests are notched failure, scaling effects, adhesively bonded joints, environmental effects and manufacturing defects and features generated during Automated Fibre Placement (AFP). He has published peer-reviewed papers in top composites jounals such as Composites Science and Technology, Composites Part A and Composites Structures. He has also presented his work in some leading international composites conferences such as ICCM, ECCM, ASC and ECCOMAS conferences. He has been awarded with the Faculty of Engineering Pump-priming fund in 2018 and the School Pump-priming Fund in 2017, which enables him to conduct independent fundamental research while tackling the practical issues faced by our industrial partners such as BAESystems, Rolls-Royce, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and JAXA.
