Mr Simon Wilson


Simon has worked in the Communications industry for over 30 years having graduated from Brunel University with a first class honours degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. From 2001 to 2018 he was responsible for global Spectrum Policy in the Technology and Strategy teams of O2 and Telefonica. Prior to that Simon worked in the test & measurement, radio manufacturing and regulatory policy fields.

With Marconi Instruments (1986-1991 and 1996-1998), he developed RF filters in the Radiocommunications lab, ran the product training department and supported the global sales force as a Sales Specialist for radiocommunication test sets before returning to manage the Radiocommunication product portfolio and being responsible for Business Development in that area.

From 1991 to 1996, Simon led the Customer Projects team at Maxon Europe, developing special-to-type communications equipment, before managing the trunked radio portfolio.

From 1998-2001 he was Director of Radio at the UK Federation of the Electronics Industry, responsible for supporting public policy on mobile health and running the Secretariat of the UMTS Forum.

During his time at O2 and Telefonica, Simon helped shape UK spectrum policy through interaction with Ofcom and Government departments and chaired the European Frequencies Working Group of the GSM Association, presenting on and debating European spectrum policy in Brussels.
