Peter Bunniss is a member of the Aerodynamics and Fluid Dynamics Research Group. His principal research interest is the lifting rotor in autorotation. In addition his research has included wind turbines, propellers and powered (helicopter) rotors. The development of a revolutionary rotor system for autogyros brings together all the performance modes of the lifting rotor and propeller. This work is being undertaken through Rotary Wing Innovations Limited (a university spinout company) under a DTI and Bristol Enterprise Centre funding initiative. This initial two-year feasibility phase will be followed by a three-year development phase with a target, proof of concept, first flight in 2007.
Peter’s research at AgustaWestland centres on the UK Rotorcraft Aeromechanics Defence and Aerospace Research Partnership (DARP) in which he has a major technical and administrative role.
