Research summary
My principal research interests involve the design and analysis of adaptive structures, such as flexible, ‘morphing’, aerodynamic control surfaces and deployable structures. My research focuses on exploiting structural flexibility and stiffness tailoring, usually through the use of advanced composites, in order to achieve large but controlled deformations. While much of my work focuses on both analytical and experimental modelling, I also have a strong background in design, manufacture and experimental testing. I am particularly interested in multistable structures and structures with highly anisotropic or nonlinear stiffness characteristics.
