Ms Maria Korea


As a University of Bristol alumna, Maria formally joined the University in July 2015 to manage the Smart Internet Lab. She holds a BA (Hons) in Politics and International Relations with Spanish, a MSc in International Development and Security and recently a MBA, reflecting her interest in commercialisation of research outputs.

Prior to joining the University of Bristol, Maria worked in research and business development at the University of Bath where she engaged in project management activities and qualified as a PRINCE2 professional.  

She managed HEIF (HEFCE Higher Education Innovation Fund Investment Fund) an Investment Fund Portfolio (£1.87M of funding over 4 years) aiming to fast-track the exploitation of research outputs from the knowledge base. She supported the activities of the ECO-SEE Project, funded by the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme, (€9.38M of funding over 4 years), bringing together academic and industry partners from across Europe and India to address emerging health problems associated with modern low carbon buildings.

Maria also project managed University of Bath’s contribution to the EPSRC funded project ‘KT-EQUAL: Putting ageing and disability research into practice’ (£1.9M of funding over 4 years) and showed-cased its output at Westminster, as well as, the European Parliament and the European Commission. Prior to leaving the University of Bath she project managed the MEET project ‘Materials for Energy efficiency in Transport’ an ERDF INTERREG IVA France (Manche) - England project (€5M of funding over 3 years).
