Research summary

Marcus Johns focusses on the development and processing of biomaterials, in particular those based on cellulose and chitosan. He is experienced in soft material characterisation, and uses regression modelling to explore the effects of processing input parameters on the physicochemical properties of the subsequent material and external responses to these.

Dr Marcus Johns obtained his first degree in Chemical Engineering (MEng) at the University of Bath in 2012. He then joined the Centre for Sustainable Chemical Techologies DTC, where he completed an MRes in Sustainable Chemical Technologies in 2013, followed by his PhD "Cellulose-Based Biomaterials for Tissue Engineering", under the supervision of Dr Ram Sharma and Dr Janet L. Scott, in 2017. Throughout his PhD he was actively involved in public engagement activities, including Pint of Science and winning the Armourers and Brasiers' 3 Minute Elevator Pitch in 2017.
