Research summary

Dr Jiang’s research focuses on both the theory and application of ‘dynamics and control'. By replacing the traditional spring-damper suspension system with a general mechanism, the performance of mechanical systems (e.g. noise and vibration reduction, stability improvement) can be improved via passive or (semi-) active controllers.

For example, using advanced passive control method, the suspension design problem can be divided into two sub-problems:

  • Identify a suitable positive-real controller transfer function (immittance) to achieve the desired suspension performance;
  • Design of a physical network mechanism either mechanically or electrically to synthesis such transfer function.

The research undertaken by Dr. Jiang is driven by ...

Dr Jiang received the Bsc and Msc degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China), and the PhD degree from University of Cambridge (U.K.). He has been a Research Associate at the Control Group, University of Cambridge before joining the Mechanical Engineering department, University of Bristol (U.K.), as a lecturer. He is now a senior lecturer in Dynamics and Control, as well as the academic lead of the Vibration Suppression Research Unit, within the Dynamicis and Control Research Group.
