    Abstract

    Active power decoupling methods are becoming an attractive
    alternative to networks of passive elements in filtering
    the power ripple in single phase rectifiers, as they offer better
    power density. In this article we develop a variable structure
    control algorithm for the control of active power decoupling.
    In the process the main design challenges are identified,
    and a new solution method for the design problem is developed
    based on the application of control actions across multiple
    time-scales. The resulting algorithm operates independently
    from the controller of the rectifier and stabilized the dc-link
    voltage during power transients.
