Biography

Eleni Toumpanaki is a Lecturer in Civil Engineering. 

Her research work focuses on structural materials such as timber, concrete and composites (CFRPs and GFRPs) with an approach that ranges from nano to building scale. Her research interests lie in the optimised use of structural materials and how efficiently timber can be used to reduce the carbon footprint of infrastructure having as main drivers sustainability, durability and resilience.

Eleni is a member of the IStructE Research Panel and Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA)

2005-2010 : Diploma in Civil Engineering, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), Greece

(3+2  years of specialisation in Structures and Earthquake Engineering)

Graduated with first class honours (2nd in her class)

2010-2011:  MSc in Structural Steel Design and Sustainable Developent, Imperial College London, UK

2011-2015:  PhD in Civil Engineering, University of Cambridge, UK

Research in the durability and bond performance of CFRP tendons in high strength concrete

2015-2017:  Structural Engineer at Foster + Partners 

2017-2019:  Post-doctoral Reseach Associate in the Centre for Natural Material Innovation, University of Cambridge, UK

Research in timber engineering from nano- to macroscale in collaboration with the Department of Biochemistry, Chemistry and Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics                                             

2019-present: Lecturer in Civil Engineering, University of Bristol, UK
