Dr Dimitris Agrafiotis is currently Senior Lecturer in Signal Processing at the University of Bristol. He holds an MSc (Distinction) in Electronic Engineering from Cardiff University (1998) and a PhD from the University of Bristol (2002).

Prior to his current appointment Dimitris was an RCUK Academic Fellow in Image Communications (2005 – 2010), a Research Fellow in Signal Processing (2004-2005) and a Research Assistant at the University of Bristol (2001-2004). He has worked in TSB, EU and Industry funded projects. Dimitris has been a recipient of a BT short term research fellowship for work on perceptually optimised rate controlled coding. He has collaborated with, among others, the BBC on sign language video coding and high dynamic range video coding, EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland on distributed video coding, Toshiba on wireless video transmission. His research is supported by EPSRC, the European Commission, Industry and TSB. Grants include : EPSRC-Multiview Distributed Video Coding for Wireless Multicamera Networks (£253k, PI), TSB-Arkive in Your Pocket (£385K, CoI), EU/ITN-PROVISION (£1.134M, CoI), EPSRC-COMPPACT (£745k, CoI). Dimitris has published more than 60 journal and conference papers and has 2 patents. He has successfully supervised a number of PhD students, has been a PhD examiner in a number of occasions and has acted as TPC member for international conferences.  




Dimitris is teaching the following courses:

Digital Filters and Spectral Analysis (3rd Year and MSc, ~150 students)

Embedded and Real Time Systems (3rd Year and MSc,  ~60 students) 

Signals & Systems Laboratory (2nd year, ~90 students)

Dimitris is also the MSc Year Tutor for 4 MSc programmes run by the Dept. of Electrical & Electronic Engineering. He is responsible for the MSc Project phase, liaising with staff, industry and students for project allocation and assessment.
