Professor Broadfoot's research is in the field of assessment and comparative education and she has contributed both nationally and internationally to education policy-making. She continues to write and provide consultancy in these fields.
Previous major projects include a longitudinal study of the impact of the National Curriculum and Assessment in primary schools and comparative studies of teachers and pupils in England, France and Denmark.

Patricia Broadfoot, CBE. has previously been Head of the School of Education, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Pro Vice Chancellor with responsibility for Education at the University of Bristol. She was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gloucestershire from 2006 to 2010. She holds an Honorary D.Litt. From the University of Bristol.
