As my webpages indicate, I'm passionate about music education for all, and about the significant role that the arts play in the lives of children and adults alike.

I have worked as a lecturer at the University of Bristol since 1999.  Prior to this, I taught Music in Inner London schools and was Head of Expressive Arts in Clevedon School, North Somerset.  During a sabbatical in 1993, I worked in the Janacek Academy for Music and Drama, Brno, Czech Republic and carried out work for the Royal National Theatre, London.

In my current position I co-ordinate the University of Bristol's Secondary PGCE Music programme and research music education, and music teacher education.

I also work on the University's staff development scheme (CREATE).

I have been involved in the work of the European Association for Music in Schools (EAS) since 2005. I am currently a member of the EAS board having been the UK National Co-ordinator since 2011. Between 2006 and 2009, I chaired the steering committee of the Music Education Network. In this EAS-initiated project project, together with 24 music educators from 12 European countries, I researched music education and teacher training practices across Europe.

From 2001 to 2004, I co-ordinated the work of the Music team on the Interactive Project
