Magda is a social anthropologist with research interests revolving around material culture, heritage and cities. Her current research, Reinventing Learning Cities (AHRC Connected Communities with Keri Facer), uses Bristol as a laboratory to explore the multiple ways in which cities learn through social and material processes. The project asks what methodologies we can deploy to reimagine and make visible the different learning processes in the city.

Magda earned her PhD in Anthropology from Goldsmiths, University of London (2015) and holds an MA in Cultural Heritage Studies from the University College London (2010).

Magda's doctoral study was an AHRC-funded Collaborative Doctoral Studentship between Goldsmiths College and the Horniman Museum. This project used an ethnographic and material culture perspective to reassess museum artefacts. During her PhD, Magda co-curated exhibitions at the Constance Howard Gallery, Pilsudski Institute and the Horniman Museum in London. These projects investigated the relationships between tradition and innovation, social history and everyday life and the possible intersections of ethnographic research and public engagement.

Prior to joining the University of Bristol, Magda worked as an Associate Lecturer at Goldsmiths, University of London (2013-2016) where she taught classes on Research Methods, Introduction to Social Anthropology and Ethnography (Africa and Post-Socialism). She also worked in applied anthropology where she has developed an interest in urban ethnography and anthropology of design and innovation. As part of this work, she was involved in projects for a range of local authorities and organisations such as Design Thinkers Academy, Macmillan Cancer Care, Oldham Council, Bromley Healthcare, Arthritis Research UK, Women in Sport, the Legal Ombudsman, Royal Voluntary Service, and Guy's and St Thomas' Trust.
